Compatibility with Macintosh OS 10.3x (Panther)

EndNote X and X1

EndNote X and X1 are compatible with OS X 10.3.9.

EndNote 8 and 9

EndNote 8 and 9 are compatible with 10.3/Panther.

EndNote 7

You should generally be able to install and run EndNote 7 on a Panther system without problems. We cannot claim certified compatibility, but our tests have found no significant problems.**

** One exception has to do with entering accented or diacritical characters using keyboard shortcuts. Normally, typing the "Option" key and a specific character and then typing a letter produces a diacritic character (such as é). You cannot enter characters into EndNote in this manner on an OS10.3 system when using the U.S. English keyboard settings.  There are two possible workarounds:

Workaround 1: Use the Character Palette to insert such characters.

1. Open the "System Preferences".
2. Select the "International" Option.
3. Go to the "Input Menu" tab.
4. Place a check next to "Character Palette" option.

You can use the Character Palette to insert characters from the Latin-1 character set. Note that EndNote 7 does not support Unicode-based characters.

Workaround 2: Change keyboard settings to British.

1. Open the "System Preferences".
2. Select the "International" Option.
3. Go to the "Input Menu" tab.
4. Place a check next to "British" Keyboard and click OK.

With the keyboard set to British, you will be able to insert diacritics using the Option key shortcuts.

EndNote 6

EndNote 6 for Mac is not certified compatible with OS10.3 (Panther). Our tests have shown that it is possible to install and run EndNote 6 on a Panther system, but there are at least the following known compatibility problems:

1. Sorting the library by more than one field is not possible. Selecting the "Sort References" command under the References menu brings up a Sort dialog window in which the drop-down lists to select the sorting criteria are always blank. Closing and re-opening the Sort dialog has no effect.

2. Drop-down lists appear blank the first time you open them in an EndNote session. If you close the window and then open it again, the window is no longer blank and appears to function normally. If you close EndNote and return to this window, the problem will occur again. Some of the drop-down lists affected by this problem include:

· File Menu: "Import"
· Preferences: "Fonts"
· Preferences: "Display Fields"
· Import Filter: "Templates"

If you run EndNote 6 on Panther and encounter problems, you may contact Technical Support for assistance and we will do our best to help. But please be aware that you are working in an unsupported environment and we may not be able to assist you. If certified compatibility is important to you, we recommend running EndNote 6 only on OS10.1.5 through 10.2.8.

EndNote 5 and earlier are not compatible with any version of OSX.
